The World BASC Organization (Business Alliance for Secure Commerce) and the International Association of Professional Customs Agents (ASAPRA) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening cooperation between the international trade community and the public sector throughout the regions wherein they operate.  This agreement, signed on September 25, 2024, sets a strategic framework to enhance the security and facilitation of goods throughout the international supply chain.

The MOU was signed during the 11th BASC Global Conference 2024, which took place in Miami, FL on September 25 and 26, 2024.  As trade facilitation and supply chain security are increasingly recognized as essential for economic growth and the global marketplace has seen a rise in illicit activities, including smuggling and trafficking, which jeopardize both health and national security.

The MOU between BASC and ASAPRA is designed to achieve several key objectives, which include: strengthening collaboration, advocating security and integrity of the Supply Chain, promoting economic growth, and creating mutual opportunities for collaboration.  This MOU marks the beginning of a collaborative effort to not only enhance trade security but also to create a more resilient and prosperous trade environment in the regions where both organizations operate and are committed to periodically reviewing and enhancing this partnership.

The conference brought together over 450 leaders from the international trade community to discuss innovative strategies for enhancing supply chain security and trade facilitation.  These leaders, representing both the industry and government, from over 20 countries, gathered to discuss the latest trends in global trade, best practices for risk management, and the importance of ethical practices in international trade.
